helmed by vogue editor-in-chief anna wintour, the met costume institute gala—the event the fashion cognoscenti await all year—was held on monday evening. the grand fête honored the late designer alexander mcqueen, whose work will be exhibited in a show called savage beauty, at the metropolitan museum of art from may 4th through july 31st. our office waited breathlessly yesterday morning for the full report of the party from our creative director, deborah lloyd, who attended with her husband, simon arscott. no words were necessary once we saw deborah’s photos. it was clear she had a dreamy night, reuniting with fellow brits, paul mccartney and colin firth, and looking radiant in a citrine yellow gown of her own design. the most glittering stars of stage, screen, fashion, sport and music—including blake lively, karl lagerfeld, madonna, sarah jessica parker, jennifer lopez and royal wedding gown designer sarah burton (longtime mcqueen deputy designer and now the head of the house)—all dazzled on the red carpet in jaw-dropping finery.
