graduation style: west coast edition - gal meets glam blogger julia engel takes home top honors in our class of 2012 grad style series
we’re kicking off our grad style series, where we asked a few of our favorite college fashion bloggers to don a little white kate spade new york dress with their cap and gown, with san-fran style blogger julia engel of gal meets glam. see snapshots from her commencement day and get the 411 on life as a fashion blogger, her dream job and plans after college. (italy, anyone?)
name: julia engel
school: university of the pacific
major: business, marketing & entrepreneurship
sorority: delta gamma
dream job: stylist
post grad gig: moving to san francisco to work in marketing
summer vacay plans: i’m getting married in august and we’re going to italy for our honeymoon, so that will be my vacation!
celebrating graduation with: my family and best friends. my parents threw a fiesta after the ceremony, where we had tons of mexican food, margaritas, beer and even a piñata!
why did you pick the floral 300 siren dress for commencement? it goes perfectly with my feminine style. the design is timeless, but the ruffles and floral print makes it unique and fun.
how did you give the outfit a twist of your own personal style? i wore black wedges (which are a must if you’re graduating on grass) and added pops of bright colors through my bag and manicure. i initially wanted to wear colored heels too, but opted not to because it drew eyes away from the dress.
give us the skinny on your blog. how did you get your start? gal meets glam chronicles my personal style, where i share my favorite hair & beauty tips and provide fashion advice for the every-day girl. i started it on a whim about a year ago, never having followed a blog before, with the intention of creating a place where i could share all the amazing tidbits i was finding online. i put together a business plan in my entrepreneurship class and began collecting data from my readers. the feedback was overwhelming (and gratifying!)—people said they felt they could relate to me, as though i was one of their girlfriends. that, to me, solidified the fact that i am in the right place and doing what i’m supposed to be doing.
